What exactly is a community-based organisation (CBO)?
A CBO is a locally rooted, formally registered organisation — in our case, registered under Kenyan law with Reg. No. DSD/47/280/02/146474 — that exists to address specific needs within its own community, run largely by and for the people who live there, rather than being directed from outside the community it serves.
What areas does One Vision CBO actually serve?
Our work is focused primarily on Mwiki Sub-Location within Kasarani, Nairobi County, though some project activities and partnerships extend to immediately surrounding areas depending on the specific programme and need.
What programmes does One Vision CBO currently run?
Our current core programmes are the Clean Water Access Initiative, the Youth Digital Skills & Vocational Training Programme, Community Health Outreach & Free Medical Camps, Women's Economic Empowerment & Table Banking Groups, and the Mwiki Environmental Sustainability & Green Spaces Project. How can I get involved if I don't have money to donate?
Money is only one form of support. Volunteering time, skills, or expertise; spreading the word about our programmes and events; and simply attending and participating in activities like the Monthly Community Clean-Up are all genuinely valuable ways to support our work.
Is One Vision CBO affiliated with any political party or religious institution?
No. As a registered community-based organisation, our work is guided by our stated mission and core values — integrity, inclusivity, community, accountability, and sustainability — and serves all residents regardless of political or religious affiliation.
How do I stay updated on new programmes and events?
The best ways to stay updated are following our Facebook, Twitter/X, and Instagram accounts @onevisioncbo, checking our Events and News pages regularly, or reaching out directly to be added to community announcements shared through local barazas.
A Few More Questions We Often Get
Can I visit your office or community centre without a specific appointment? Yes — our team is generally available at the Mwiki Community Centre during regular working hours, and walk-in visitors with questions are always welcome, though reaching out ahead by phone helps us make sure the right team member is available to answer your specific query.
Do you work with other NGOs or CBOs operating in the same area? Yes, where a partnership makes sense and avoids unnecessary duplication of effort. We'd rather coordinate with an existing initiative addressing a similar need than compete for the same limited resources and community attention.
How We Handle Complaints or Concerns
If a resident has a complaint about a specific interaction with our staff or volunteers, or a concern about how a project was implemented in their area, we want to hear about it directly rather than have it circulate only informally within the neighbourhood. Reaching our team directly by phone or email, or raising it in person at the Mwiki Community Centre, ensures it reaches someone able to actually investigate and respond, rather than getting lost in secondhand community conversation.
We treat every complaint seriously and aim to respond within a reasonable timeframe, even when the response is simply an honest explanation of why something happened a certain way rather than the outcome the resident had hoped for.
