As we move through the third quarter of 2026, we wanted to share a straightforward, honest update on how each of our five core programmes has progressed this year — not a polished highlight reel, but a genuine account of where things stand, consistent with the transparency commitment we've written about elsewhere on this site.
Clean Water Access Initiative
Our water team has continued working methodically through Mwiki's priority areas identified in our ongoing needs assessment, with site surveys and community consultations progressing steadily this quarter. As always, some sites have moved faster than others depending on technical complexity and coordination with local administration, and we've been transparent with affected communities about realistic timelines rather than promising faster delivery than we could confidently commit to.
Youth Digital Skills & Vocational Training Programme
This programme has continued its steady cohort cycle through the year, with each successive cohort benefiting from lessons learned in the ones before it — refinements to curriculum pacing, stronger mentor-trainee matching, and improved alumni follow-up all trace back to specific feedback gathered from earlier cohorts this year.
Community Health Outreach & Free Medical Camps
Our medical camps have continued rotating across different areas of Mwiki this year, with growing attendance at HIV/TB testing services in particular — a trend we're cautiously optimistic reflects the gradual stigma reduction work described in our earlier piece on this topic, though we're careful not to overstate what a single year's attendance trend can definitively prove.
Women's Economic Empowerment & Table Banking Groups
This has been a genuine growth area this year, with the formation of new groups, including the eastern section group covered elsewhere in our recent news, alongside continued strengthening of our earliest groups, some of which have now operated for long enough to demonstrate real, sustained financial impact for their members.
Mwiki Environmental Sustainability & Green Spaces Project
Progress toward our 1,000-tree planting target has continued steadily, alongside consistent monthly clean-up participation and early-stage exploration of the recycling and green livelihoods concept discussed in an earlier piece — still very much in development rather than an active programme at this stage.
Honest Reflection on Where We're Behind Schedule
In the interest of the same transparency we've committed to throughout this update, it's worth naming directly that our original internal timeline for this year included at least two water point sites we'd hoped would be fully operational by this point in the year, and both remain in earlier stages of the process due to a combination of technical survey delays and, in one case, a more complex land-use negotiation than initially anticipated.
We'd rather report this honestly than quietly adjust our public timeline without acknowledgment, since the same transparency principle that applies to our successes has to apply equally to the areas where progress has been slower than we'd originally hoped.
Looking Toward Q4
As we move into the final quarter of the year, our focus shifts toward consolidating the progress made across all five programmes this year, addressing the specific delays named honestly above, and beginning early preparation for the kind of thoughtful December giving season planning described elsewhere in our recent articles.
